WEEK'S UP FOR 28 APRIL 2017

Hello, everyone!  Did you have a pleasant week?  Productive, we trust?

The format of our blogs, which previously carried the week's activity, is now changed to an advisory publication.  This is possible as a result of the 'Joo mag' publications that we post on Facebook for your viewing pleasure.  You are invited o access our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mfcsinr to access the various publications and, our new feature, te mid-week postcard!

Announcement!

Art gallery & Exhibition - Friday, May 5, 2017

We are thrilled to announce that the works of masters such as Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet and Wassily Kandinsky, as interpreted by the students in our Montessori Extended-Day programme, will be displayed within our 'art gallery' from 5:30 pm on Friday, May 5, 2017.  You are cordially invited to attend.  Finger food and beverages will be available as refreshments.

This is an event not to be missed.  You are reminded, however, of parking limitations in our compound, and the need to ensure that our roadway and access to neighbours compounds are unhindered.  The playground may be used with adult supervision. We look forward to seeing you for an evening of art appreciation, good conversation, and cordiality.

WEEK'S UP FOR 13 APRIL 2017

Hello everyone,

We trust your long weekend has been pleasant so far.  Here is our administrative update.

Security
Keeping the safety and security of your child paramount, we have asked all persons (parents, grandparents, caregivers) who routinely collect children from the school to display the ID Tags that we have issued.  Please ensure this practice to help us proceed with timely dismissals.

Please contact the school office immediately if you do not have an ID tag, or have misplaced it.  Thank you for your cooperation.

We remind you of the following:

QUOTE from Handbook for Parents (Pleae contact us of you do not have a Handbook):

Drop Off - Parents are required to drop their children at the above times. At least two staff members will be at the main gates to receive your child and direct him/her to class, through the compound. Please do not enter Broadrick Road from Mountbatten Road and attempt to drive into the school compound. We strongly recommend that you drive into Broadrick Road through Meyer Road.  Please ensure that your child sits on the rear left side seat of your car so he/she may alight on the side of the school gates. Please wait until a staff member is at your car door to greet your child and take responsibility for his/her safe escort into the classroom.  Children will enter the school building through the main entrance and/or the side door facing the veranda towards the right side of the building, located on the ground floor.  Staff members will be stationed in the driveway area and along the veranda to direct them further. Please be reminded that a health check is carried out before your child is allowed entry to the school building. Bringing a properly completed health card will expedite the process.

Your child’s safety and security firmly rests with you, until a member of our staff, identifiable by their name tags, has taken over this responsibility.  Similarly, at dismissal, once your child has been handed over to you, the said responsibility reverts to the parent or guardian collecting the child.  If your child uses the school bus, you may want to pursue the extent of liability that the school bus company is prepared to accept.

Fair-weather Days - All children will enter through the pedestrian gate located adjacent to the main gates and walk towards the school building to enter the classrooms.  A staff member will be in the compound to guide the children to their classes.

‘Drop and go!’: we provide parents with car decals to identify vehicles that are driven by parents/care-givers of our students. Our members of staff will then be able to direct you better, to our main gate for ‘drop and go’ ensuring that we do not delay you more than necessary and, not cause traffic congestion on Broadrick Road.

‘Pick and go” :the car decals will also help us to arrange for your child to be at the pedestrian gate, escorted by a member of our staff so the ‘pick and go’ time is greatly reduced and you are saved from having to wait to park your vehicle on the road and walk to school or wait for a parking spot within the school premises.

We ask that ‘drop and go’ be from 0800-0815 (morning session) and 12.25- 12.30 p.m. (afternoon session) and that ‘pick and go’, be made from 11.20 a.m. – 11.30 a.m. (morning session) and 3.35p.m. - 3.45 p.m. (afternoon and the extended day sessions).

PARKINGis available within our premises, along our driveway, there are certain areas that are designated as emergency assembly points.  We request that you respect the directions we have posted and assist us in keeping these areas clear.

Pedestrians – please use the side gate (to the left of the main gate when you face it) to enter and exit the school compound and take particular care to stay behind the stanchions, cones or any other safety barrier used to demarcate the pedestrian area.
You are strongly advised against crossing Mountbatten Road with your child, either on foot or on a bicycle. The school is located on a bend and vehicles coming along this road may not have a clear view of the road ahead.

Staff Roster for Traffic duty: The staff members on duty at the gate may change with each week      and the teacher on duty may not necessarily be your child’s class teacher. Other staff members and     office personnel will also be in the compound to ensure your children are sent to their classes               safely. These arrangements apply only to the drop off time given above.  Please do not attempt to      engage a teacher on traffic duty in a conversation, nor, pass messages and instructions.  Please         read point 04 regarding communications.  Staff members attending to traffic duty have to stay             focused on their responsibility.

Latecomers –We strongly recommend that you ensure the timely arrival of your child, as arriving in the classroom late can be disruptive not only to your child’s classmates but to his/her education.  If, however, in the event you do arrive late, please escort your child into the school compound.  You may enter through the pedestrian gate and speak with a member of the administrative staff within the office to be let in. If you are late, please do not leave your child at the gate, hoping he/she will find their way into class.

Leaving early - You are strongly advised against requesting that your child/children be dismissed before the end of the session. Work in the Montessori classroom begins as the child enters and finishes only once the ‘goodbye song’ is sung. Taking your child out of the classroom prior to this disrupts not only his/her work cycle but also that of other children. We, therefore, ask that you do not make this request unless of course there is an emergency.

Sports Programme
As we approach the end of this term, if you would like your children to attend our sports programme, please contact dennis.delacruz@montessori.edu.sg, or call Dennis through our main line at 63450087.

School fees for Term I 2017-2018
We are progressively sending out our invoices for the first term of the next academic year.  We would appreciate your attention to its payment.

The teachers make termly plans for the children, particularly in the academic areas.  In order for us to plan constructively, we require assurance of your child’s enrolment with us.  We request for your co-operation to settle your child’s school fees by the due date.  Should you be away during that time, we would appreciate it if you could make a payment before that.

Health
Our best response to maintaining a healthy environment for your children is to disallow children who are unwell, and this includes coughs and colds from entering the school building.  Hence our health check. While we do conduct 100% health check, we also rely on your co-operation in seeing to the health cards being completed.  You should only do so after you have checked your child before sending him/her to school.  This is a partnership of trust that we must ensure, for the welfare of our student population and members of staff. We append our health policy as published in our Parent's Handbook that has been provided to you.

QUOTE:
09 CONTAGIOUS DISEASES, PARTIALLY RECOVERED CHILDREN AND MEDICATION:

Children who contract an infectious disease must obtain a certificate of fitness issued by a registered medical practitioner in Singapore, before resuming school. Also, please keep us informed if your child has contracted an infectious disease, as we are obliged to maintain a proper record of such.  Your timely advice in this regard will also enable us to alert parents of other students to be on the lookout for signs of the disease contracted so the spread of infection could be contained.  Please be considerate and do ensure that your child is completely recovered and is past the infectious period prior to sending him/her back to school.

We cannot medicate your child at school, so if your child is receiving medication, please ensure he/she is kept at home and properly treated before resuming school.  You are advised against medicating your child at school.

Note - we are under instructions from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education to report cases of most communicable diseases. They include Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease, Chicken Pox, Rubella Mumps and Avian Disease. Please call us if you require clarification in this regard and we also invite you to visit the following website for further information. The school should be notified immediately, therefore when children contract these diseases so we can do the needful.  Please note that medical practitioners are also required to notify the authorities in the above circumstances.
