GONG XI FA CAI everyone,
LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION
The details are:
Date: 8th February 2017
Venue: Montessori For Children, 11 Broadrick Road, Singapore 439476, Driveway
Time: 9a.m. to 11a.m.
All the children are to attend school form 8:15a.m. to 11:15a.m. (There will be no afternoon sessions on that day.)
All are welcome to join us in the festivities and to toss our prosperity salad.
A REQUEST
Our playground is a communal place set up for the children to enjoy outdoor play, at school. We request that you always supervise your children's play so that the play equipment and general surroundings could be kept in good condition to be enjoyed by all. Thank you for your co-operation.

Despite the short week, we got a lot done. Here are some highlights:
IN THE MONTESSORI ENVIRONMENT
Parts of a Leaf - working with the Leaf Puzzle and learning the names of the parts of a leaf.
Group - Topics and Presentation:Sri Lankan National Day - Sri Lanka achieved independence from Bristish rule 69 years ago on 4th February 1948.
Songs: Continued singing Lunar New Year songs
Botany: Parts of a Leaf - learning to name the parts of a leaf in Mandarin
Geometry: Learning the names of the three basic shapes - triangle, circle and square

Conversation: Lunar New Year greetings - the greetings that one uses during Lunar New Year, e.g. shen ti jian kang (wishing you good health), wan shi ru yi yi (may everything go smoothly for you)
Washing Hands - Besides learning good hand-hygiene, the children are also learning to complete an activity following a sequence.
Mathematics - Addition with the Decimal System: learning about addition, i.e. putting two or more smaller numbers together to form one larger number.
Cookery Project
Sri Lankan National Day which was on 4th of February each year and the children prepared a simple Sri Lankan meal of rice, lentil curry, eggs and fried potatoes. There was a lot of excitement during the preparation of the meal and the children learnt about a culture and cuisine.

Story Time - ‘Camile and the Sunflowers’ by Laurence Anholt (a story about Vincent Van Gogh). Andrew Varela brought the book to share with us.

Group: Continued to present Lunar New Year: Leaning words - 'hong bao', 'Lion Dance', 'Chinese Clothes' Restoration of materials upon completion of an activity
Activity: Rolling and unrolling a rug - Unrolling a rug prepares the child's work space while rolling up a rug signifies the completion of the activities and restoration of the materials and rug. This exercise also helps improve coordination of movement, development of small motor muscles and concentration.
